This laboratory of Helsinki University of Technology aimes for its part to support Finland being one of the leader countries of the information techonology in the world today, and to contribute to implement new applications of media technology.

The laboratory is located in Espoo Tietotalo, and partly also at the Technology Centre Kareltek in Lappeenranta. In 1999 the budget was 24 million FIM, consisting both of investments from Tekes as of private investments. The whole personnel includes more than 140 people. In Lappeenranta there are currently 25 young research assistants working on different projects, concentrating on information technology and telecommunication software.

The research projects are Tove, Calypso IP, Calypso SP, SCOMS, Go/Gore, IPMAN, IP2005, and OVOPSO++. These projects are located mostly in Lappeenranta, except Calypso SP which is operated in Espoo.
